Phil Keevill's Biography

Philip studied graphic design at Norwich School of Art, but his first job was as an art director at J Walter Thompson.

He enjoyed working in a wonderful media-neutral environment before "the line" was drawn. Working on projects which might have included a TV commercial, new product development, packaging, press, posters, trade press, sales promotion or direct marketing  for clients such as Guinness, the RAF, the Guardian, Remy Martin and Kellogg's (launching Crunchy Nut Cornflakes). His direct marketing work for Guinness, produce with head of copy Tom Rayfield, who went on to found JWT Direct, earned him the overall BDMA Gold Award.

Some years later, Philip returned to the rapidly maturing direct marketing industry at BMP Young Clark Craig, working on brands such as BT, Volvo and Friends Provident.

He then moved to the fledgling breakaway from O&M Direct, Craik Jones, along with Simon Kershaw, (the first creative team they hired), where he worked for 11 years. In that time, he worked across all accounts, including Land Rover, BT, Cable and Wireless, Orange, First Direct, and Parcelforce.

In 2003 he realized one of his ambitions when he launched his own start up agency, Keevill Lee Kershaw, with clients such as Nectar, Kew Gardens, Alpha Telecom and F&C.

In 2006, he was lured back into larger agency life with the offer of working with Paul Kitcatt at Kitcatt Nohr, working on clients such as Waitrose, John Lewis, Lexus, Toyota, Age UK and WWF.

Phil has won over 30 major direct marketing and advertising awards, including DMA(UK), BDMA, John Caples, Clio, DMA (US) Echo, Engage Awards, British Television Advertising Awards, and FEDMA.

He has given talks at or been involved in courses at D&AD, DMA, IDM, Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College, University of London, Royal Holloway, and Kingston University.

He has been asked to judge many industry awards, and in 2008 he was privileged to be invited to judge of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Award.

In 2010 he judged Campaign's Photo Awards and the Campaign Big Awards.

Philip is also developing and expanding his photographic expertise. He took all the portraits and still life shots on the Kitcatt Nohr Digitas website, and has shot for Waitrose, John Lewis, NS&I, RNIB, Toyota and Age UK, while at the same time seeking to establish his own, personal photographic style.
