I was talking to my younger daughter the other day about why I support the football team I do. For me, it's a simple matter of where you're born, not a choice. Other people see it rather differently: indeed my other daughter recently switched from supporting the team from where she was born (Chelsea) to the one the rest of the family (apart from me) support (Manchester United).
That got me thinking, are there any ways of representing where the fans of each football club live. And then I found this marvellous map.
What it shows is pretty clear. Each team has a strong following around its home ground. Yes, even Crystal Palace. Some of them are big and fragmented, like Chelsea's. Others are big and contiguous, like West Ham's. Some are compact, like Fulham's. And the white patches when you zoom in? Anyone for Man Utd?

Nail your colours to the mast.
From one who has never been to a football match - when someone asks you "Who do you support?" I'm torn. Answer? Pick a nice colour. Born in Manchester, older brothers established United supporters. First place I live in London, Highbury. No dilemma then. Best motorcycle in the world? Ducati. Easy. What's all the fuss about???
