Tom Wright
Group Chief Executive of Age UK
Tom Wright is Group Chief Executive of Age UK, the new force combining Age Concern and Help the Aged.
Age UK is inspired by the belief that we can improve the lives of older people and our vision if of a world in which older people flourish.
Prior to joining Age UK, Tom Wright was CEO for nearly 7 years of VisitBritain, the National Tourist Board, promoting Britain around the world. Previous experience includes the Saga Group, where he was Managing Director of Saga Holidays
and a Group Board Director.
Before joining Saga he worked for Scottish and Newcastle plc developing Center Parcs in England and then in Europe. He has a business background having worked on such brands as KP, Anchor and Carlsberg.
Tom is also a Trustee of the Imperial War Museum and Chair of the Trading Company. He is Chair of STAR, the self regulating body for the ticketing industry and a member of the new Government Digital Inclusion Task Force. Most recently Tom became Chair of the British Gas Energy Trust.
Age UK turns over nearly £400m with its brand partners. Its direct turnover is in excess of £150m, which originates from roughly three areas: Age UK Charitable and Fundraising activity; Age UK Retail, Training and Trading, with over 500 shops; and Age UK Enterprises, providing financial and
energy services to over 1 million customers.
Age UK campaigns for change and delivers services to older people such as information and advice to over 5 million people. It funds over 60 research projects into ageing and supports 350 international programmes to help older people in developing countries. Age UK sits on the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and in partnership with HelpAge International is active in disaster relief, such as that following the earthquake in Haiti. The organisation provides market leading financial services such as motor and home insurance and energy, and a range of products tailored to the needs of people in later life.
Tom was awarded a CBE in 2007.
